Seniors' Championship 2008
Thu 10th Jul
County Secretary Mike Wlilcox won his second Middlesex Seniors'Championship at Finchley Golf Club on Wednesday 9th July.

On a very wet and windy day the field of 56 players found the conditions very trying anf only 5 players broke 80 in the morning round. During the afternoon the rain became more persistant and heavier leaving the organising committee no alternative but to abandon the round.

Three players were tied on 77 after the morning round, Mike Willcox, Howard Marshall and Andy Williams. The Tournament Committee decided that the result would be by a count back over the last nine holes as no play off was possible. Thus the Championship was awarded to Mike Willcox; Howard Marshall was placed second and Andy Williams placed third.

Luke Goddard, Tommy King, Steven Cronin, David Ginn, and Danny Coughlan all weighed in with excellent wins to make this the biggest win by a Middlesex team for some 10 years.

Greg Smith, Team Manager of Middlesex, was full of praise of his team's efforts and says he is really looking forward to the next league game against BB&O on 24th August at Sonning. Could this be Middlesex's year?

Scott Fallon wins the Championship
Sun 8th Jun
Scott Fallon of Hendon defeated Will Salthouse by 2 & 1 to win the MCGU Championship. Scott at 19 years of of age is one of the youngest winners of the Championship and will represent Middlesex in the Champion of Champions Tournament at Woodhall Spa in September.

Scott was always in charge in the final having been 3 up after eight holes and thereafter it was a case of Will not quite putting Scott under sufficient pressure to make the title his.

The semi finals were marred by the fact that several players and officials were affected by a stomach bug. Paul Kirchner of Ealing had to retire after 10 holes which was very disappointing as he had set his sights on winning the Championship at his own club.

The other semi final went to the 20th hole before Will Salthouse finally overcame Steve Cronin of Wyke Green. The match was of the highest quality with birdies being exchanged throughout. Both players should be proud of their efforts.

Middlesex beat Hertfordshire at Brockett Hall
Fri 30th May
The Middlesex 1st Team opened their 2008 campaign with an exciting win against Hertfordshire by 6 1/2 pts to 5 1/2.

In the morning foursomes Middlesex went into lunch 3 -1 down with only Steve Cronin and David Ginn winning their match. When the first two matches in the afternoon singles were lost it looked as if all was lost. Andrew Johnston making a rare appearence because of England commitments, won his match 6&5 and this seemed to act as a catylist to the rest of the team.

David Ginn gained a valuable half and with Sufian Dhaduk, Scott Fallon, Steve Cronin, and Captain Paul Kirchner all weighing in with victories Middlesex were home and dry winning by one point.

Team Manager, Greg Smith was ecstatic after the match and had nothing but praised for his team's fighting spirit and added that he was really looking forward to the Team's next match against Essex at Mill Hill on 15th June.

Harry Casey wins the Boys' Championship
Wed 28th May
Harry Casey of Enfield came from four shots back at lunch to clinch the title by two shots from Michael O'Connor of Hillingdon.

Tommy King, looking for his third Boys' Championship, appeared to be in total command at lunch having carded a superb 69 and was three shots clear of Paul Hopkins of Northwood and Michael O'Connor of Hillingdon. However he could only muster a disappointing 78 in his afternoon round and it was left to Harry Casey to land the title with a second round of 70.

Harry also won the U16 title by three shots from Max McGrail of Pinner Hill and 12 year old Pavan Sagoo of Ealing won the U14 Championship by one shot from Robbie Johnson of Northwood. Robbie also recorded the lowest nett total for the day of the whole field with 128, only 14 under par! Not bad off 14 handicap?

Hendon carried off the Inter-Club Championship and will represent Middlesex in the national Finals at Harewood Downs G C on 9th and 10th of August.
