Under 13 Championship
Venue: Grims Dyke 25 Aug.
Well were the boys lucky? The answer - yes - as 20 mins after coming off the course the heavens opened and stayed opened. Thanks to Grims Dyke, celebrating its centenary, the day went very smoothly - apart from a few boys who having played so many competitions recently had not adjusted their handicaps properly - they will learn!!!

Under 14 League
Venue: Thorney Park, Bucks. 23 Aug
2nd triangular league fixture for the U14 side - v BB&O and v Beds. In a complete reversal of the season''s trend the team with flair and of course skill again bucked the system by actually winning both their 4somes matches - 3-2. However they came back down to earth in the singles mustering only 1.5 v BB&O and 3.5 v Beds - thus overall losing both matches.
Team: Aidan Kovenklioglu, Thomas Porter, Yonhak Lee, Drew Nugent, Jack Drennan, Charlie Greensmith, Aadam Syed, Oliver Chesterman, Alex Shaw and Edward Curtis.

Competitions
Frank Rowse Trophy semis;
Pinner Hill beat Highgate 8.5 - 3.5 at Hendon whilst at Pinner Hill Stanmore overcame West Middlesex 8 - 4 winning the singles 7-1. The final to be played at Wyke Green on Sunday 26 Sept.
Well done to Sudbury representing MCGU (Danial Parsons, Niall Keogh and Kishan Patel) in the EGU Junior Champion Club Tournament at Malton & Norton in Yorkshire finishing 4th out of 33 clubs.

Under 14 League match
Venue: Caddington GC, Beds
The U 14 team started their series of triangular matches - this one against Beds and against Herts. The usual format of 5 foursomes and 10 singles. The 4somes proved fruitful - beating Beds 5-0 and drawing with Herts. In the singles the boys lost 4.5 - 5.5 to Beds and 4 - 6 to Herts. So overall defeating Beds but losing to Herts.
The team members were Drew Nugent, Aiden Kovenklioglu, Thomas Porter, Ryan Careford, Yonhak Lee, Aadam Syed, Jack Drennan, Liam Cella, James Evans and Charlie Greensmith.

Under 18 fixture
Venue: Hartley Wintney GC, Hants
In their triangular match v Hants v Surrey Middlesex U 18 team ended up with 29 points compared to Hants 33 and Surrey 28. (2 pts for a win and 1 for a/s). The team members were Robbie Johnson, Ross Dickson, Charlie Rudge, Niall Keogh, Jordan Forster, Harry Kovenklioglu, Kieron O''Connor, Kishan Patel, James Wood and Chris Alexander. Ross and Charlie remained unbeaten throughout the day (foursomes and singles) and all the others came in with points

Seniors v Herts
Venue: Northwood GC 16 Aug
The Seniors shook hands level in their league match with Herts as the spoils were shared 5-5. With 1 new cap Stuart Monro on his home course the result hinged on the last 2 games - shared 1 apiece.
Winners were Joao Teixeira, John Miller, Howard Marshall, Peter Edwards and Mark Stanton.
Those not winning were Alan Drake, Andy Williams, Stuart Monro, Ray Andrews and Tom Powell.

Competition updates
Presidents 4somes: Enfield with neither of their top pairings in trouble ambled past Mill Hill 2.5 - 0.5 at Finchley. Whilst at Mill Hill Fulwell demonstrated their practice in 4somes by overcoming Crews Hill 3-0 - not as easy as it sounds as all matches were very close.
The final along with the Middlesex Sixes is scheduled for 5 Sept.
Final to be played at Stanmore tee off 1pm
George Gowland Salver: the semis see James Ellis (Hendon) v Ross Dickson (Crews Hill) and Dean Fallon (Hendon) v Michael O'Connor (Hillingdon). date Mon 6 Sept. at Sudbury tee off 8.30am

Middlesex Youths v Herts
Venue: Fulwell GC 14 Aug
A repetitive tale as yet again the morning 4somes were lost 1.5 - 2.5. Tommy King/Tony Ginn and Ross Dickson/John Fernandes lost - Michael O''Connor/Daniel Kneafsey won and Ross Chard/Danial Parsons were a/s.
P.M singles: as in the recent Essex County match the afternoon took on a different story. In 2 monsoon-like downpours the boys with 4 of the matches going to the last hole played their hearts out and won the singles 7-1. Capt of the day Ross D. was the only loser. Overall 8.5-3.5

Middlesex Sixes Semis
Well done to West Middlesex who defeated Ruislip at Fulwell 2 1/2 - 1/2 and to Bush Hill Park who won 2-1 against Fulwell at West Middlesex with the final match only being decided after 2 extra holes.

Middlesex Youths v Essex
Venue: Theydon Bois 7 August
"It''s like the plague" quoth team manager Eamon Kneafsey one day before the match as the pre-selected team crumbled as players cried off. 20 phone calls later he was at last able to select his side with 3 newcomers - Harry Goldie (Ealing), James Wood (North Middlesex) and Kieron O''Connor (Hillingdon). Well done to them for accepting the challenge at the last moment on a totally unknown course where on occasions you have to play over hedges guarding the green.
A.M Foursomes - needless to say lost this format 1-3. The winning pair were Ross Dickson/Michael O''Connor but Ross Chard/James Wood, Tony Ginn/Dean Fallon and Harry Goldie/Kieron O''Connor lost.
P.M. Singles - A good fight back with Dean, Tony, Michael and Ross D. all successful - well tried to the others.
Result: Lost 5-7

Youths Championship
Venue: Highgate GC: 5 Aug: CSS 70 and 70
Another fine day - panoramic views of North London - and the Youths played at a remarkably quick pace on this not long but full of risks course - yet again in lovely condition with true and fast running greens. The fact that the par 69 was beaten once and equalled once showed its hidden problems. The winners were:
Best gross a.m - Michael O'Connor (Hillingdon) 71
Best gross p.m - Robbie Johnson (Northwood) 70
Runner up Nett - Harry Goldie (Ealing) 135
Winner Nett - Ben Mignano (Enfield) 132
3rd place - Jordon Forster (Hendon) 68/74 -142
Runner up - Louis Dunn-Allen (Bush Hill Park) 71/70 - 141
Champion - Ross Dickson (Crews Hill) 69/70 - 139
Congrats to Ross who did the double by winning the Youths to add to his Boys title

Under 16 league match
Venue: Stanmore GC 27 July
The U16 Team opened their season of triangular matches. This one against BB&O and Herts. All games are played in 3 balls so it is an interesting format as each player is playing 2 matches - 1 up against him and 2 down against the other whilst the other is 1 up against the him. Anyway MCGU were represented by Robbie Johnson, Jerome Foster, Rymer Smith, Harry Kovenklioglu, Matt Nagle, Darren Hilliard, Aneesh Mistry and Freddie Woodcock. They played 4somes and singles and lost 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 to BB&O and 4 1/2 - 7 1/2 vs Herts. All the players contributed throughout the day with wins.

County team fight back
Middlesex v Essex: Venue; Wyke Green Aug 1st
As is customary this year the poor results in the foursomes continued as the team sat down to lunch trailing 1-3. Captain Tommy King / Max McGrail were all square as were Ross Dickson / Chris Davis. Daniel Kneafsey / Dean fallon lost 3/1 and Ross Chard / Joe Atkins lost 2/1.
After 9 holes of the p.m singles things were looking somewhat bleak but matchlay holds surprises and the pendulum quickly swung our way. Tommy hit by a barrage of birdies lost as did Chris. Dean recovered and birdied the last to win 1 up. Max, Daniel, Ross and Ross quickly got themselves into a winning position and triumphed. Joe parred the last to win 1up.
A great win 7-5

Boys Championship
Venue; Muswell Hill: 26 July CSS; 71 and 70
The future (and some already present) players for the County Team assembled for the Under 18/16/14 Championship. Some intermittent rain and wind added to their enjoyment. A few will have gone home wondering why and how they had managed to shoot a couple of 8s and 9s during the 2 rounds.
Congrats to Max McGrail, the newly crowned English Schools champion, who recorded the best round of the day - 67. The winners were:
Boys Champion; Ross Dickson (Crews Hill) 140

Coronation Bowl / EGU Gold Medal
Venue: West Middlesex 23 July CSS 70 and 70
As usual with the vast array of handicaps ranging from 3 - 25, with clubs represented by 2 players with both nett scores counting from the am and pm rounds the result hung in the balance until the last moment. The individual Gold medal swayed to and fro in the same manner. The old adage - use your shots - came to the fore.

County Team
Due to injuries, illness and a wedding the County had to dig deep into its reserves for the league match v Herts at Old Fold Manor. Once again we lost badly in the 4somes - the only half point coming from the top match of Louis Dunn-Allen/Max McGrail. In the p.m singles we fared much better sharing the points 4-4. Max, Ross Dickson and Chris Davis won, Tommy King and Daniel Kneafsey were a/s whilst Louis, Pavan Sagoo and James Ellis lost.
Earlier in the week at Moor Park in the SE Group Junior Championship MCGU had 5 boys (Max McGrail, Harry Casey, Niall Keogh, John Fernandes and Ross Dickson) in the top 20. Max was in 6th position after a superb 5 under in the afternoon round.

The Seniors lost 4 - 6 to Essex at Langdon Hills GC. Making their debuts were Peter Edwards (Hendon) and John Miller (Wyke Green) and both won. Mike Willcox was victorious and Alan Drake and Joao Teixeira both were all square. Unfortunately Tom Powell, Win Ellis, Ray Andrews, Mark Stanton and Bruce Hurley lost.

MCGU Seniors Championship
Venue: Hendon GC: 6 July CSS 70 both rounds
Despite the very disappointing number of entries the tournament was as usual played in great spirit yet very competitive. With the course in excellent condition despite the recent lack of rain and the sun not too blazing the 1st 2 ball went round in 3hours and 10 mins. Well they are Seniors!!
Results: Runner up nett: John Miller (Wyke Green) with 142
Winner nett: Peter Canswick (Finchley) 141

County 1st team v Bedfordshire
Venue: Enfield GC 4 July
The County team lost their 2nd league fixture of their campaign 4 - 8. Losing the a.m foursomes is never a good start. Scott /Dean Fallon (Hendon) won: Joe Atkins (Grims Dyke) / Tony Ginn (Sudbury) were all square but Tommy King (Sudbury) / Justin Phelps (Ruislip) lost as did Harry Casey (Enfield) / Max McGrail (Pinner Hill).
Justin with an injured ankle got permission from both Managers to travel with his opponent in a buggy and won 2 up; Harry also won 3/1 and Joe got another all square. Tony was somewhat unlucky to lose 1 down with his opponent birdieing the last 2 holes.

Middlesex Sixes semi finals
The MCGU Sixes semi finals will be Fulwell vs Bush Hill Park to be played at West Middlesex with a tee off time of 12 noon and Ruislip vs West Middlesex to be played at Fulwell tee off 2.30. Matches on Sunday 8 August

County Team vs BB&O
Venue: Gerrards Cross 26 June
With both counties minus a couple of their senior players it was an opportunity to introduce some new faces from the Youths and Boys teams. A hard lesson as we went down 3 - 9
The a.m foursomes put us immediately into the passenger seat as only Paul Kirchner (Ealing) and Max McGrail (Pinner Hill) gained a half point. David Ryan (Ealing) / Tony Ginn (Sudbury) lost 2/1: Joe Atkins (Grims Dyke) / Danial Parsons (Sudbury) lost 1 down and Dean Fallon (Hendon) / Louis Dunn-Allen (Bush Hill Park) also lost 2/1
The p.m singles saw fine victories for Joe and Dean with an all square for Louis, the others shook their opponents hand with words of congratulations.

Unlike our Boys earlier this month the Seniors - Alan Drake, Mark Stanton, Tom Powell, Joao Teixeira, Mike Willcox and Andy Williams did not achieve their hopes and finished 10th. The holders Kent retained the title.

Youths triumph
Venue: Leighton Buzzard. 29/05/10
The Youth team started their league fixtures with a convincing win against Bedfordshire. Being a Bank holiday week-end the weather was pretty appalling - rain. McGrail (Pinner Hill): L.Dunn-Allen (Bush Hill)/ D.Ryan (Ealing); a half for D.Parsons / N.Keogh (Sudbury) and a defeat for D.Fallon (Hendon) / M.O''Connor (Hillingdon) gave the team manager Eamon Kneafsey plenty of satisfaction.
