Mark Stanton (Ealing) is the new Middlesex Seniors Champion after winning the title by 12 shots from John Miller (Wyke Green) at Ealing.
Mark shot a level par round of 70 in the morning when everyone else was finding the quick Ealing greens difficult to handle. He followed this with the best afternoon round of 76 to win comfortably on a day when the standard scratch for both rounds was +3. Full results attached
Seniors match: 4th July 2011
Middlesex vs Essex at Hendon golf club
Result : 5/5 draw
Whilst a draw against a strong Essex team should seem like a solid result the reality is
quite different.
A strong team performance from the middle section set up real possibilities of a win,
stunning wins from Mike Willcox over England international Geoff King and Mark Stanton
over Tommy Dodds gave Middlesex rare and unexpected points.
In their final league match of the season the Seniors ended with a 5-5 draw against Bedfordshire. Somewhat windy at the Downs - even the hand gliders were taking shelter. Victories for Alan Drake, Johnny Johnson, John Miller and Mark Stanton. Halved matches for Bruce Hurley and Mike Willcox but losses down the last for Andy Williams, Joao Teixeira, Peter Edwards and Capt. Tom Powell
The Seniors shook hands level in their league match with Herts as the spoils were shared 5-5. With 1 new cap Stuart Monro on his home course the result hinged on the last 2 games - shared 1 apiece.
Winners were Joao Teixeira, John Miller, Howard Marshall, Peter Edwards and Mark Stanton.
Those not winning were Alan Drake, Andy Williams, Stuart Monro, Ray Andrews and Tom Powell.
